The Washingtonia palm trees of Route 8 in Jungmun Resort are being removed and will all be replaced by sometime in September. Originally planted in 1982 when the resort opened, the now 15-meter-high palms have taken various lashings from typhoons over the years and are considered a safety hazard.

(JULY 16) Night swimming at Iho Beach (Route 17). Until the middle of August a number of beaches on the island will have lifeguard services and floodlights operating at night making swimming and other water activities possible.
